MAKING THE SCENE

Ever wondered how filmmakers capture those compelling back-and-forth moments on screen? This hands-on workshop will teach you the basics of filming a dialogue scene, from setting up the camera to recording clean audio and shaping the mood with lighting.

What to Expect

Participants won’t just watch—they’ll do. In this workshop, you’ll rotate through key crew roles, becoming the:

• Camera Operator – Learn framing, angles, and coverage.

• Sound Recordist – Capture dialogue clearly and cleanly.

• Lighting Technician – Shape the look and feel of the scene with lights.

Work with real actors with step-by-step guidance from experienced filmmakers. You’ll practice using professional cameras, lights, and sound gear in a collaborative environment.

What We’ll Cover

We’ll shoot a short dialogue scene from 28 Days Later as a case study to explore:

• How to plan and capture proper coverage.

• Shooting with the edit in mind to save time in post-production.

• How to piece it all together in editing.

What You Need

Come prepared to work! Please bring the following items if you have them

• Work Gloves... We have extras if you don't

• Comfy Close-Toed Shoes (REQUIRED)

• A laptop or tablet with video editing software (no worries if you don't have this)
